mini vacation

The simplicity of enjoying the sun on a day off should never be taken for granted. I had the opportunity to take a day off in Saugatuck MI and enjoy a little vacation day with good friends, good ice cream and good drinks.
What I wore: I used a maxi skirt as a dress/cover up for the day. It was an easy on and off and didn't show a wet swim suit like many other cover ups I have. Plus it's nice to play around with the many different ways to wear one piece.

I hope you are all able to take a day off this summer for a mini vacation!

casual LBD

My closet is full of LBD's (Little Black Dresses for those of you who should know by now). I have casual ones, formal ones, ones for a barbecue, ones for shopping days and one for a dinner in. I found this one at Target a few months ago and have found many ways to wear it. Today I kept it simple. I contrasted the silk dress by adding a gauze scarf to make it casual. The simple accessories like the watch, shoes and hair are effortless and add a touch of interest to the ever so simple look.

I like color too much to not include it at all! This nail polish is a new favorite of mine. It's "Cajun Shrimp" by OPI

p.s. After some requests, I have decided to do a couple hair and head wrap tutorials that will be posted this week. Stay tuned.

handling the heat

A head wrap and flowy maxi are my essentials in the summer heat. I try to stay light with my layers in the summer and a flowy maxi does the job. This light scarf used as a head wrap can be worn in many ways. On this particular hot day I used it as a colorful way to keep my hair off of my face and shoulders. A J.Crew summer bag is perfect to hold every summer need (swim suit, sun screen, lip balm, water) while keeping structure and shape. The neon on the bag is a great finishing touch to the combination of the other colors in the look.

summer stripes

Happy 4th of July weekend. I hope you all are enjoying the summer festivities around you. I have had the opportunity to spend this holiday weekend in northern Michigan with a wonderful group of friends. I put this outfit together for an afternoon boat ride which I'll show you all more of tomorrow. Stripes are truly my addiction and summer gives me a daily excuse to throw some on. This is just a simple outfit concentrated on the top stripes and a hint of neon. I'm loving pops of neon right now, and shoes are the perfect little hint.
